I was born and raised around a town called Muscle Shoals
It’s the birthplace of rockin’ good music - RnB and soul
And I wish I could say I was there that day
When Aretha sang ‘Chain of Fools’
But I swear it’s the truth we didn’t have a clue
About the history that was goin’ down in that Music Town
I took a job in Memphis so I moved my family
I raised my kids in that river bluff town of B.B. and the King
Just about any day you can hear someone say
They’re chasing that rock-n-roll dream
And when you walk down Beale you get a good feel
For the history that’s goin’ down in that Music Town
Music Town it’s where I long to be
You’ve always been home to me
Music Town you’re in my soul
I was raised on your rock-n-roll
If you look for me I’ll be found in Music Town
Now my son has moved to Austin - under that Texas star
With his wife and little babies - playing his guitar
And to this old man those kids are grand - life sure is a mystery
Well there’s music in the air but it just don’t compare
To the history that’s goin down in that Music Town
